Out There: Baja Mexico!

After almost two years of on-again off-again coronavirus lockdown restrictions, many adventurers are thinking of travel again. If you're wondering what post-pandemic travel with friends looks like, well ... you're in the right place. We outfitted Kyle Murphy, Grayl Ambassador, with a half dozen new UltraPress® water filter and purifier bottles PLUS a brick of pesos for a joyride to Baja, Mexico.

"The mission was simple — to cross the border into Baja and traverse Highway 1 — in quest of maximum indulgence of sun, laughs, and epic international adventure."

The mission was simple — to cross the border into Baja and traverse Highway 1 — in quest of maximum indulgence of sun, laughs, and epic international adventure. And along the way, document their hunt for questionable water sources to quench that unrelenting thirst that happens in Baja.

"Yes, the post-pandemic overlanding trip was all that and then some! A strange magical place that only those who have meandered the length of Highway 1 ... and back... can truly appreciate."

Yes, the post-pandemic overlanding trip was all that and then some! A strange magical place that only those who have meandered the length of Highway 1 ... and back....can truly appreciate. Everything and everyone moves at a different speed and somewhere along the way Baja has a way of stealing traveler's hearts while leaving an everlasting desire to venture back to escape long winters.

"Any jug would be filled for a nominal fee but of course there was no implied guarantee that drinking the water would be a wise choice. That's where Grayl came in play and empowered quick and easy treatment. "

Oh and the water fill ups? Baja water access is interesting to say the least. When camping on the beach, locals visited daily with fresh shrimp, mussels, ceviche, blankets, hats and everything under the sun including huge jugs of highly questionable water from the nearest town. Any jug would be filled for a nominal fee but of course there was no implied guarantee that drinking the water would be a wise choice. That's where Grayl came in play and empowered quick and easy treatment. UltraPress bottles were put to use daily for treating all water for pathogens — primarily VIRUS — and to make the water clean and taste as though it was pulled from an oasis.

"Should you happen to make a trip to Baja this year, keep your eyes peeled for Kyle when driving on Highway 1 because odds are better than good that you'll spy a Grayl window decal on a Toyota Tacoma parked in front of a taco stand somewhere along the roadside. "

Travel is most definitely back and the new compact UltraPress fits into any pack pocket or cup holder and offers all the Grayl performance that has won over hundreds of thousands of fans worldwide. Should you happen to make a trip to Baja this year, keep your eyes peeled for Kyle when driving on Highway 1 because odds are better than good that you'll spy a Grayl window decal on a Tacoma parked at a taco stand along the roadside.

Kyle Murphy (@briskventure) and Jodie Morse (@alwayslossst) travel the U.S. together in a 1955 Airstream. They run an awesome glamping travel company (@camp.wanderlost) sharing adventures with others. Their dream is to keep traveling the US, then the world!
